Sculpture

Doug Nicholson creates sculpture inspired by the flora and fauna of the Derbyshire Peak District. By combining engineering and metal shaping techniques, he makes one of a kind sculptures for sale or commission.

Below are examples of recent work and some of the processes involved in the making. Doug is now taking inquiries for commissions and would be delighted to hear from you.

Life size Red Kite commission. Corten and stainless steel.

A twice life size perching raven. Fabricated in mild steel and standing at 1.3 metres, this piece will be part of a range of imposing raven sculptures for buildings and gardens.

Bust of a Sparrowhawk. An experiment in armorer techniques, machining and creating a larger than life piece. Formed from hammered mild steel and solid stainless and brass.

A life size Heron. Commissioned for a garden and completed in Corten steel.

A Little Owl. Made from mild steel with a machined stainless base. The oxidized steel patina is carefully applied and fixed with several coats of lacquer.
